Matt Berry - Youth Development Coach

Matt began playing water polo locally at Clark Intermediate School. He then moved on to graduate from Clovis High School, where he played water polo and swam. Next, Matt moved to southern California to play water polo and swim at California Baptist University. In 2001 and 2002 Matt led the team in both goals and assists while also earning AWPCA Division I All-American honors. In 2001, the team finished ranked #14 in NCAA Division I, while they finished with a #15 ranking in 2002. As a member of the swim team, Matt was a 6-time NAIA National Champion (200 freestyle and 400/500 freestyle). In 2008, Matt was elected to the CBU hall of fame.
Matt began his coaching career in 2004 as the head coach at Clark Intermediate and the assistant coach at Clovis High School. Eventually, he would go on to become the head coach at Clovis High School. During his time at CHS, the team competed in 4 Division I Championship games, bringing home the championship in 2014 behind section MVP and current Praetorian 18U head coach, Kyle Eoff. Currently, Matt teaches Social Science at Clovis East High School where he also serves as an assistant coach to Kyle Eoff.
At the club level, Matt was involved with Clovis Water Polo Club from 2004 through 2016. He has served as the head 14U Boys, 16U Boys, and 18U Boys coach during various years. He was in charge of the boys side of Clovis Water Polo Club from 2010-2015, while current Praetorian club director Micha Pavlovic ran the girls side. Matt has also officiated over 1,000 water polo games in the past 7 years.
